One of the best things that happened to me a few years ago was to be connected with like-minded academic colleagues who are doing work in the field of Partnership Studies and being invited to serve on the Editorial Board of the Interdisciplinary Journal of Partnership Studies(IJPS). For the 2015 Issue for which I was guest editor, I contributed my art to the journal cover titled ‘Emerging Partnership‘ in addition to an article. Below is what I wrote in my artist’s statement on the piece:
“Partnership is a beautiful and dynamic process. It emerges from what seems like chaos and isolation. But if you pay attention, your partners are around, waiting to emerge when you are ready. It takes some time to get used to a new partnership, to understand each other, and to appreciate your partners’ beauty with its human imperfections. It is good to remember that individuals are also evolving as the partnership evolves.
Partnership is a linking of individuals and a creation of something larger when 1+1 becomes more than two and creates a whole, even as that whole remains a part of an even larger whole. In this image, before there were six partners, there were four, three, two, one, and zero. In the future there may be seven, eight, or nine, all the way to infinity. This is a moment of dynamic balance captured in time.
There is a strong centrality and circular motion to partnership. Where will it go? Whatwill it become? Come back in a while and see what happens.
This is one of a series of explorations I’ve started, to draw the concept of partnership and examine its visual implications while working within the constraints of a medium.”
It’s great to look back on this piece. In future posts I will share more about a couple of my articles that were also published in the IJPS. Stay tuned for those but in the meantime do check out the journal here and keep fostering partnerships!
